Mandala is Sanskrit for circle. Carl Jung believed the circle to be one of the oldest archetypes and a symbol of self. He believed that creating mandalas had an organizing capacity useful to healing work and the individuation process. Some studies have shown mandala drawing to be helpful in reducing pain. Mandala drawing also provides an effective check-in method regarding what is happening in one’s life and what might be needed. My mandalas are often ovals, not circles, as I like the egg shape.
