Taking My Place in the World
A Celtic Spirit House with Guides and Helper Figures
My Celtic Spirit House represents a literal coming home to myself, and to my place and purpose in the world. The inspiration came in a vision quest during the final year of my graduate program in art therapy. I asked for the means to speak from a place of empowerment in my work as an art therapist. The answer given to me was not to be in a hurry to rush in with answers, but instead to allow the space for inner authority and guidance to rise up and through me. I chose to visually represent this space by creating a spirit house that would invite guidance in. The seated figure is a self-portrait of sorts, the grounded, solid essence of me that is able to hold her seat even in crisis and personal loss. The surrounding figures are guides and aspects of self who came to me in dreams.
